Brickman Finds Greener Pastures with Enhanced ATS System

Getting out of the Mud

Brickman, a leader in the commercial landscape industry, is well known for providing expert landscaping and lawn care to its clients. The company relies on a team of professionals passionate about client satisfaction, but soon found its recruiting strategy to be stuck in the mud. Brickman Group had previously implemented a new applicant tracking system (ATS), but that system never went live since the resource responsible had left the company. Although initially hired to write training materials for the use of the ATS, Talent Function recommended a system audit would be more beneficial, given the circumstances. As a result, Talent Function consultants worked with the company to redesign the system and bring everything – and everyone involved – up to date.

The Grass is Always Greener

One of the main goals of the project was to get the ATS live as soon as possible; Brickman Group had been incurring the costs of the solution for a year without utilizing it. Following the initial system audit, Talent Function prioritized a list of go-live action items as well as post-go-live items. The implementation team, consisting of resources from Talent Function, Brickman and the ATS vendor, held on-site discovery meetings to determine the needs of the system and how it would align with the company’s future goals. Key for all stakeholders was to build a solution that could meet future needs, without limiting their current practices.

Based on these discovery sessions, Talent Function used the feedback and, collaborating with the ATS vendor’s implementation manager, made the necessary adjustments to the system. In addition, through weekly meetings, Talent Function was able to show the client the progress that was being made, as well demonstrate the system changes and get final sign off on all decisions.

A New Approach in Full Bloom

After guiding Brickman through the improvement process, Talent Function was able to ensure a new, streamlined approach to the recruiting process. In addition to adding a job board aggregator and a portal for approved talent agencies to submit candidates, the company also benefits from multiple language portals to reach a larger candidate pool. Talent Function also worked to train Brickman HR teams on using the system, while ensuring optimized reporting for the company’s corporate and local offices.

Brickman is now live with its upgraded ATS, and all of the company’s recruiters and approved agencies are utilizing the solution to deliver the best candidates possible. In its commitment to continuous improvement, Brickman Group has also enlisted Talent Function to assist in its rollout of an ERP portal to capture more qualified candidates. Next on the agenda for Brickman is to further enhance its recruiting strategy to include social media and an updated, mobile-optimized career site to ensure a robust and effective talent acquisition program.
