Why I Love Fall Conference Season

It’s hard to believe that we’re nearing the end of 2013. As I muse over the months passed, I’d be remiss to overlook October: always a busy one in the HR world. Here are a few highlights from the most engaging, entertaining, educating and exhausting month of my year:

HRDergi Talent Management Conference

I was excited and honored to accept the invitation to present a keynote at this year’s HRDergi Talent Management Conference in Istanbul. Coordinated by local organizations from within Turkey, the event was well attended by human resource and talent management professionals from across the country. One of the best produced conferences I’ve attended, the caliber of the attendees rivaled many of the U.S. conferences with outstanding networking and discussion opportunities. This was my first keynote with translators, who I relied on throughout the event for almost all of my conversations. A fantastic experience, I encourage anyone that looks for global learning opportunities to consider this event.

Bonus: spending some time touring Turkey. Details to come in an upcoming blog post!

The 16th Annual HR Technology Conference & Exposition

Back from abroad and off to Vegas for the HR Technology Conference! This is hands down the one conference that I look forward to year after year for more than one reason. While I am honored to present at this event too, my session pales in comparison to the information I learn. The excitement and buzz about the next great tech solutions, shifts in market trends, increased innovation and overall atmosphere are intoxicating, much like the oxygen that’s pumped into the casinos. The audience is filled with professionals eager to review and select new solutions for their HR technology challenges, along with analysts, vendors and consultants – it makes for some very exciting conversations. Plus, all of the networking sets the stage for the upcoming year.

Favorite moment: The 2013 Candidate Experience Award winners were announced at the third annual CandE Awards Gala!

Recruiting Trends Conference

Viva Las Vegas! Toward the end of the month I returned to Vegas for the Recruiting Trends Conference. With the collision of recruiting best practices, sourcing excellence, trend setters, and panels of experts, I thought I might explode from the continuous intake of knowledge. Introduced to several interesting new applications, I’ll be watching a few closely over the next several months.

Top two takeaways: getting the ‘tweet notes’ on what Stackoverflow is doing to elevate the opportunity to connect with the best engineering and technical talent and learning about the business intention of Recruitics, optimizers of recruitment marketing analytics.

Rounding out the month, I travelled east to InfluenceHR, produced by George LaRocque and Laurie Ruettimann. This event inspired me to rethink the marketing, strategy and delivery of my consulting practice to HR. Industry experts shared real examples of what’s worked and what hasn’t for building relationships with buyers in the human resource space.

Favorite panel: Josh Schwede of HireVue joined HR buyers to explain why they don’t want vendors to sell them on a partner product to help solve their problems.

Until next fall!
